People Power Party Protests Judicial Secretary Appointment, Citing 'Political Crackdown'
The People Power Party (PPP) on the 22nd strongly criticized the Presidential Office's appointment of lawyer Park Ji-young as Judicial Affairs Secretary, deeming it an "appointment for political suppression." The opposition party claims this appointment targets individuals critical of the administration and has foreshadowed legal and political countermeasures.
In a commentary released today, PPP Chief Spokesperson Park Sung-hoon defined lawyer Park's appointment as an "explicit declaration to establish a new prosecution power structure directly under the Presidential Office to be used as a tool to eliminate political opposition." He criticized the placement of lawyer Park, a former prosecutor and special prosecutor for rebellion, in a key position as a "hitman for opposition suppression" aimed at achieving political objectives.
On the 21st, President Lee Jae-myung appointed lawyer Han Chan-sik as Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs. Lawyer Han Chan-sik was affiliated with Kim & Chang Law Offices.
