PPP's Jang Dong-hyeok Faces Growing Internal Conflict Over Disciplinary Action Stance

Internal conflict within the People Power Party (PPP) is deepening after Representative Jang Dong-hyeok declared his intention to initiate disciplinary proceedings, framing calls for his resignation as 'cross-party conduct' in violation of party regulations. In a YouTube appearance and simultaneous interview, Jang stated, "It's time to take disciplinary action that has been postponed since the local elections," targeting party critics who hold him responsible for the defeats in the June 3rd local elections.

In response, intra-party reformist groups such as 'Alternatives and Future' criticized Jang's stance as 'narrow-minded leadership' and voiced their opposition. Lawmaker Kim Yong-tae also stated, "The evaluation of the party leadership is complete. The cause of the party's division is the leadership's extreme line," urging a transition to an emergency response committee.

The party's ethics committee has received disciplinary requests against lawmakers belonging to 'Alternatives and Future,' who have called for the party leader's resignation, and lawmakers who supported the election campaign of independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon. Clashes over Jang's disciplinary stance are expected to intensify during the lawmakers' general meeting scheduled for the 29th.
