Teacher Lee Min-kyung fined for traffic obstruction; Education Office to review disciplinary action

Teacher Lee Min-kyung, who also serves as the Jeonbuk headquarters chief of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), has been fined 1 million won for charges of obstructing general traffic during a protest. Following this verdict, the Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education has initiated proceedings to review whether the teacher violated their duty to maintain dignity and has requested disciplinary action. The Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education has recommended a minor disciplinary measure for the chief, citing a violation of the duty to maintain dignity. The disciplinary committee of the Iksan Education Support Office is scheduled to review the matter next month.

On the 30th, the KCTU Jeonbuk headquarters held a press conference in front of the Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education, urging the withdrawal of the disciplinary request by stating that 'blocking the martial law was a legitimate act of civic resistance to protect democracy'.

An official from the Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education stated that disciplinary procedures commence once legal action is taken, and the specific disciplinary measures will be determined by the disciplinary committee.
