Military Boot Found on Gwangju May 18th Signboard; Commemorative Group Launches Investigation
A military boot was found hanging on a May 18th Democracy Movement historical site signboard installed on the grounds of the former intercity bus terminal in Dong-gu, Gwangju, prompting a commemorative organization to launch an investigation into the circumstances. The boot was confirmed hanging on the May 18th Road signboard at the former intercity bus terminal site in Dong-gu, Gwangju on the morning of the 30th.
The May 18th Memorial Foundation received a report that a single military boot was tied with a shoelace and hanging on a May 18th Road signpost installed on a utility pole near the intersection of Gwangju Bank headquarters in Daein-dong, Dong-gu, Gwangju. The Gwangju City government dispatched personnel to the scene and collected the boot.
Gwangju City and the May 18th Memorial Foundation have begun their own investigation into who placed the boot there and with what intent. The May 18th organizations plan to request a police investigation if any intention of defamation or disparagement is confirmed. The May 18th Memorial Foundation is preparing to take legal action, such as filing complaints or indictments, immediately if criminal charges are deemed present.
