Samsung Electronics to Invest 425 Trillion Won in Honam, Establishing Semiconductor Cluster
Samsung Electronics will invest 425 trillion won in the Honam region to establish a new complex housing semiconductor production facilities and related industries. This investment is part of a broader 800 trillion won investment plan aimed at developing Honam into a second major production base, following the Seoul metropolitan area, in the semiconductor sector.
The plan also includes the construction of a national artificial intelligence data center and the promotion of future energy industries. Centered around Saemangeum, it will contribute to establishing a humanoid production system prepared for the Physical AI era and foster future energy industries.
The commitment to the '3 Major Mega-Projects'—semiconductors, AI data centers, and new Physical AI businesses—is demonstrated by Samsung Electronics and other companies' investment plans exceeding 2,000 trillion won, the government's support measures, and the launch of a special committee and dedicated team to strengthen the semiconductor industry's competitiveness. The government has pledged to re-examine regulations hindering investment and provide financial and tax incentives.
