140,000 Vehicles Across 38 Models Subject to Large-Scale Recall Over Manufacturing Defects
Approximately 146,000 vehicles across 38 models from six automakers and importers, including Hyundai Motor and Mercedes-Benz, will be recalled (voluntary corrective action) due to manufacturing defects. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that voluntary corrective actions (recalls) will be conducted for 146,505 vehicles across 38 models where manufacturing defects were discovered. Owners of the recalled vehicles can receive free repairs at designated service centers.
This recall includes approximately 54,000 Hyundai Tucson vehicles across two models, which were found to have an issue where the instrument cluster would turn off due to a software error in the cluster control system. Additionally, around 18,000 BYD Sealan 7 vehicles across six models were found to be non-compliant with safety standards, as the seatbelt reminder warning was obscured by other alerts.
Mercedes-Benz C 300 4MATIC vehicles (2,113 units) are subject to recall due to potential failure of the horn and steering wheel buttons, stemming from insufficient durability in the steering wheel's electronic control circuit. Stellantis 300C vehicles (1,731 units) are being recalled due to the possibility of the engine shutting off while driving, caused by insufficient durability of the high-pressure fuel pump component.
Jaguar Land Rover Defender 110 D240 vehicles and 21 other models totaling 14,373 units are being recalled because there is a possibility that airbags may not deploy during a collision due to insufficient durability in the steering wheel airbag connector. Volvo XC60 vehicles and 7 other models totaling 55,405 units are subject to recall as the 12V battery and engine warning lights may illuminate due to insufficient durability of the 48V alternator component, and the engine may not restart when using the start-stop function.
