Trump Declares End to Iran Peace Deal

U.S. President Donald Trump officially declared the ceasefire agreement with Iran ended on July 8, 2026, shortly after the U.S. military struck approximately 80 targets inside Iran in response to attacks on merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran had attacked more than three international ships for two consecutive days on July 6 and 7, and U.S. forces executed a heavy bombing campaign against over 80 targets inside Iran on the night of the 7th in response. These successive hostile acts by Iran served as the direct catalyst for the U.S. military's robust response.

The United States has withdrawn from all agreements with Iran and restored sanctions. The memorandum of understanding (MOU), which centered on the resumption of transit through the Strait of Hormuz and a 60-day long-term peace negotiation, has been scrapped. Concessional measures maintained by the U.S., including oil sanction waivers, have been fully revoked.

During the opening of his meeting with Secretary-General Mark Rutte at the NATO Summit in Ankara, Turkey, President Trump denounced the Iranian leadership as 'sick and frauds' and dismissed the possibility of further negotiations.
