Government to Cut Highway Rest Area Food Prices by Overhauling Fee Structures
The government and the Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC) have decided to reduce costs by restructuring excessive rent and commission fees at highway rest areas.
Currently, tenant businesses face a heavy burden as the KEC collects rent while intermediary firms take additional commissions. By 2030, this structure will be simplified to ensure that reduced costs result in lower food prices and improved services.
The government plans to apply new contracts starting with eight rest areas whose contracts end in 2024, eventually covering most highway rest areas nationwide by 2030.
