Kia Recalls Over 460,000 Tellurides in North America Over Fire Risk

Kia announced on Thursday (local time) that it is urgently recalling approximately 460,000 units of the Telluride, a key strategic model in the North American market, due to fire risks.

According to the Associated Press, this measure was taken after an additional 18 reports of incidents, such as front passenger seat fires or motor melting, were received even after a recall for the same model was issued last year.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) explained that the cause is the power seat switch in the front seats malfunctioning and causing the motor to overheat if the knob is impacted or jammed. The authority advised parking outdoors and away from structures until repairs are complete. Repairs are scheduled to begin early next month, and owners will receive written notifications starting on the 13th.
