US Firms Rehiring Human Experts as AI Limitations Come to Light
As the limitations of artificial intelligence (AI) systems competitively introduced by US Big Tech and traditional SMEs come to light, a sharp turnaround is occurring as companies rehire the personnel they had laid off. In the past year or two, Big Tech companies, including Microsoft, carried out large-scale layoffs under the guise of AI transition and organizational restructuring, effectively treating the future of 'AI replacing humans' as a fait accompli. However, cases of bringing back the personnel they had let go in reliance on AI are emerging one after another.
In the manufacturing sector, Ford rehired 350 veteran engineers, including retirees, on the 28th of last month, leading the company to first place in overall new car quality surveys. In the IT sector, IBM expanded its recruitment of new hires threefold to resolve ethical dilemmas and complex organizational issues, while fintech firm Klarna also moved to replenish its consulting staff to recover customer satisfaction levels that had dropped after adopting AI.
This trend suggests that rather than a failure of AI technology itself, the hasty judgment that AI could replace all of humanity's unique capabilities and 'human touch' is being revised.
