A tourist speedboat capsized around 1:00 p.m. local time on July 11, 2026, in the waters off Hon Mai Rut Island, approximately 11km south of Phu Quoc Island in An Giang province, Vietnam. The vessel overturned about 400 meters after departing Hon Mai Rut Island for An Thoi Port due to strong winds and rough waves. The boat operator stated that an island tour program was underway at the time.

Fifteen Indian tourists were killed and 21 survived in the accident. The victims were identified as two women and 13 men, all Indian nationals. Nearby tourist boats arrived immediately to assist, but rescue efforts were delayed as many passengers remained trapped inside the overturned hull. The An Thoi Border Guard, Navy, and Coast Guard were deployed to the scene to conduct rescue operations.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung ordered the Ministry of Public Security to investigate the cause of the accident and punish those responsible in accordance with the law, while also instructing relevant authorities to support the victims' families and inspect maritime safety in the area. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the victims' families via social media, stating that the local Indian embassy and consulate were providing all possible assistance.
