Former Daughter-in-Law Appeals to Supreme Court in Lawsuit Over De Facto Marriage with Hong Seo-beom's Son

Ms. A, who was in a de facto marriage with the son of singers Hong Seo-beom and Jo Gap-kyung, has submitted an appeal to the Supreme Court after refusing to accept the appellate court ruling. Last month, the Daejeon Family Court ruled that Mr. Hong was responsible for the breakdown of the relationship and ordered him to pay Ms. A 30 million won in consolation money and 800,000 won per month in child support.

Ms. A met Mr. Hong through an acquaintance in August 2021 and married him without filing a marriage registration in February 2024, becoming pregnant in March of the same year. Ms. A claimed that a conflict arose just one month into her pregnancy when Mr. Hong had an affair with a female teacher from the same school, and she alleged that her parents-in-law condoned this behavior.

Hong Seo-beom and his wife apologized for disappointing the public and stated that they would guide their son to promptly pay the child support and consolation money.
