China's Wang Huning, 4th in rank, to visit North Korea for 3 days from the 15th

A delegation from the Chinese Communist Party and government, led by Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and China's fourth-highest-ranking official, will make an official goodwill visit to North Korea from the 15th to the 17th. This visit is an official schedule made at the invitation of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and the North Korean government.

This visit to Pyongyang was arranged to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance between the two countries, and follows Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to North Korea earlier this month—the first in seven years. It also comes immediately after North Korean Cabinet Premier Park Thae-song paid an official visit to China from the 10th to the 12th.

Through the mutual dispatch of top-level delegations, the two nations are strengthening their strategic partnership. In particular, this visit by Wang Huning—a key strategic figure within the Chinese Communist Party—is expected to enhance strategic communication and lead to discussions on substantive cooperation measures between the two countries.
