On the 14th, just two days before candidate registration for the August 17 convention, the Democratic Party held a Supreme Council meeting and finalized electoral rules, including the adoption of a preference voting system for the party leadership election and the rejection of a separate election for the youth Supreme Council member. Positions regarding the adoption of the preference voting system, decided during this day's Supreme Council meeting, diverged between the pro-Myeong and pro-Cheng factions.

The pro-Cheng faction, which had opposed the preference voting system, effectively acquiesced to the decision during the meeting but continued to express concerns by raising the possibility of constitutional violations.

In the process of finalizing the election rules, party leadership contenders former Prime Minister Kim Jin-pyo and Rep. Song Young-gil welcomed the adoption of the preference voting system and reacted positively. Amidst the heated debate between contenders, Rep. Jeong Cheong-rae has been attacking Rep. Song Young-gil over his history of leaving the party.
