Protests During Removal of Osong Memorial Altar Lead to Fines... Appeals Court: 'Must Stay Within Legal Bounds'
Two civic activists, referred to trial for obstructing police and others during the removal of a civic memorial altar on the 49th day of the Osong disaster tragedy, were fined 5 million won in an appeals court.
While the lower court gave them a suspended sentence, the appeals court ruled that a criminal penalty was unavoidable, stating, "Even if the purpose of the assembly is just, legal procedures must be followed."
The fined activist stated they had no regrets and would do the same again if faced with the same situation.
