Election Commission Confirms Voter Count Data Entry Errors in Jincheon, Uiwang, and Gimpo for June 3 Local Elections

The National Election Commission (NEC) has confirmed that data entry errors regarding voter counts occurred at polling stations in Jincheon County, North Chungcheong Province, and Uiwang and Gimpo cities in Gyeonggi Province during the 8th nationwide simultaneous local elections. The commission rectified the errors by readjusting figures on a per-polling-station basis while maintaining the total voter counts for each city, county, and district.

Over-entry occurred at the second polling station in Gurae-dong, Gimpo City, Gyeonggi Province, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Election Day. The error resulted from a method in which the cumulative voter count for a specific time slot was added to the figure reported for the preceding time slot. During the rectification process, Gimpo City dispersed the excess entries to other polling stations. Meanwhile, Jincheon County and Uiwang City froze the initial figures until the actual voter count surpassed the previously entered numbers.

The NEC has verified the specific points of input failure and the regional differences in handling the adjustments, and has completed an internal review of the process.
