Ceiling Collapse at Restaurant in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi, Injures 14
Yesterday around 6:30 p.m., the ceiling of a restaurant in Yangpyeong County, Gyeonggi Province, collapsed, injuring 14 people, including diners, and forcing the evacuation of about 60 others. A large section of the building’s ceiling caved in completely, leaving a tangle of collapsed steel frames, exposed wires, and ducts hanging beneath the slate roof.
The accident site is a single-story building constructed with a lightweight steel frame. It previously operated as a mart but underwent a conversion into a buffet restaurant about a year ago.
Police and fire authorities have launched an on-site investigation, focusing on determining whether structural defects caused the collapse. They also plan to investigate potential negligence by the owner, specifically examining whether there were any issues with the construction process during the building's change of use to a restaurant.
