1 in 4 Seoul-Area Election Winners Has Criminal Record
An analysis following the local elections held on the 3rd reveals that one in four elected officials in the Seoul metropolitan area has a criminal record. The civic group CCEJ announced on the 3rd that a full survey of 1,436 officials elected in the 9th nationwide simultaneous local elections found that 345 of them (approximately 24%) possessed a total of 526 criminal records.
Among those elected without opposition, 43 out of 223 (approximately 19.3%) were found to have criminal records.
Breaking down the figures by political party in the Gyeonggi region, 122 elected officials from the Democratic Party of Korea (180 records) and 65 from the People Power Party (107 records) were found to have criminal records.
