SK Hynix Unveils First HBF Standard Targeting AI Era
SK Hynix has officially unveiled the first standard specification for its next-generation Artificial Intelligence (AI) memory, 'HBF (High Bandwidth Flash).' SK Hynix and SanDisk presented the HBF standard at 'FMS 2026' in Santa Clara, USA, outlining a collaborative blueprint to overcome the 'memory barrier' in the AI industry.
Kim Chun-seong, Vice President at SK Hynix, explained that HBF is a technology that dramatically enhances data supply capabilities, thereby boosting the performance of Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). He particularly emphasized its effectiveness in responding to the rapidly growing demand for high-capacity, high-bandwidth memory as the AI industry shifts towards inference.
SK Hynix plans to foster HBF as an open standard to expand the AI industry ecosystem. Through this, the company has revealed a vision to move beyond being a mere component supplier and to act as an 'innovator' driving technological advancement.
