SK Telecom Sees 92.5% Surge in Q2 Revenue Driven by AI Data Centers
SK Telecom has achieved remarkable results in the second quarter of this year, fueled by the growth of its artificial intelligence (AI) data center business. On a consolidated basis, the company recorded 4.3591 trillion won in revenue and 566 billion won in operating profit, marking a 0.5% and 67.3% increase respectively compared to the same period last year. Notably, the AI data center business played a leading role in driving performance, with second-quarter revenue of 136.2 billion won, a sharp 92.5% surge from the previous year.
To expand its business, SK Telecom established a dedicated entity, 'SK Hyper,' last month and is laying the groundwork for future growth by pursuing the construction of AI data centers with a capacity of 5GW (gigawatts) by 2029.
Kim Yang-seop, SK Telecom's Chief Financial Officer (CFO), stated that the company has built a foundation for expanding its AI data center business based on stable profits from its telecommunications operations, and expressed its ambition to play a leading role in establishing South Korea as an AI infrastructure hub in Asia.
