Special Prosecutor Candidates for Election Irregularities to be Finalized by the 14th
The Recommendation Committee for the Special Prosecutor (SP) investigating the ballot shortage during the June 3rd local elections is set to finalize two final candidates by the 14th. The National Recommendation Committee for the SP will select the final two from a pool of candidates recommended by the Korean Bar Association and the Council of Law School Deans.
The National Recommendation Committee appointed Kim Yong-kwan, a lawyer representing the People Power Party and the eldest member present, as its chairman.
Lawyer Cho Ki-yeon, a recommender from the Democratic Party, stated that as the special prosecution is being launched with cross-party agreement following an unprecedented infringement of suffrage rights, it must respond to demands to resolve public distrust, uncover the truth behind the Election Commission's poor election management and past issues, and prevent recurrence, independent of partisan interests.
