Trump Vows Not to Cede AI and Crypto Dominance to China
U.S. President Donald Trump has signaled his refusal to accept Chinese dominance in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and cryptocurrency. In an interview with U.S. outlet Punchbowl News on Monday (local time), Trump stated, "We don't want China to have control of crypto."
Specifically regarding AI, he explained his determination not to yield leadership to China, noting, "It's a many times bigger business than the internet... and the side that wins on AI is going to win everything."
Trump cited his upcoming diplomatic schedule as grounds for his stance, revealing, "President Xi Jinping of China is coming to the U.S. in a couple of weeks, and I'm going to talk to him about AI." He hinted that the issue would be a key agenda item at the summit, stating, "We can't let China beat us."
Moves at the administrative level are backing up this stance. According to a report by Reuters, a U.S. delegation led by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is expected to hold high-level AI discussions with China in September. This is interpreted as a preliminary measure to finalize practical AI agendas ahead of the U.S.-China summit.
