Japan Lodges Strong Protest Over Korean Survey Ship in Waters West of Dokdo... Navy to Conduct Sovereignty Defense Drill on 6th

The Japanese government has lodged a strong protest, claiming that a Korean survey ship conducted maritime research near Dokdo without prior consultation.

In a press release issued on the 7th, the Japanese Foreign Ministry claimed that the Korean survey ship 'Tamhae 3' was spotted deploying wires and other equipment into the sea within Japan's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) west of Takeshima (Dokdo). It emphasized that there was absolutely no prior consent or application made to Japan regarding the survey.

Masataka Kanai, Director-General of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, visited Lee Sang-ryul, Minister for Political Affairs at the Korean Embassy in Japan, while Kozo Chudo, Minister at the Japanese Embassy in Korea, visited Lee Min-kyung, Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Asia-Pacific Bureau, to convey Japan's position that the survey conducted without prior consent is unacceptable and that they are lodging a strong protest.
