August 19 Employment Report: Surge in Luxury Retail Hiring Driven by Rolex’s First Standalone Store

Luxury and Service Sectors Stand Out in Experienced Hiring Market

A comprehensive review of domestic job posting data reveals that among 80 job openings posted by 46 companies recently, there is a concentrated demand for experienced workers in specific industries, including luxury distribution, gaming, defense & aerospace, and cosmetics. The most notable development is the hiring related to the first standalone flagship store in Korea for the luxury watch brand Rolex. Multiple postings for the branch manager, sales associates, and OA managers for this store have been confirmed, demonstrating a trend where the expansion of directly operated stores by luxury brands is translating into employment.

This trend is not limited to a single brand. There has been a steady stream of announcements from overseas luxury groups looking to staff their domestic stores, such as Louis Vuitton Korea’s hiring for sales associates in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and nationwide, and LVMH group jewelry brands (Chaumet, Fred) recruiting assistant managers and staff members. The fact that one consulting firm was exclusively responsible for posting a significant number of luxury retail recruitment advertisements suggests that a structure has been established where brand companies utilize external professional agencies to secure retail talent.

Narrowing Talent Pool for Global and Technical Roles

There is a clear demand for global competency in technical and professional recruitment. Representative examples include the recruitment of Global Game Masters (GMs) capable of communicating in English and team leaders for overseas sales of defense PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards). As positions involving direct work with overseas clients beyond the domestic market increase, the frequency of language skills being listed as an essential requirement has risen.

The R&D sector is also active. An aerospace company is simultaneously recruiting new R&D personnel for 2026 in Incheon and Daejeon, while also conducting recruitment for Executive Assistants targeting experienced hires. Job postings for manufacturing and engineering roles, such as automatic control program developers, quality control (QC) managers for advanced chemical materials, and electrical design personnel for power distribution panels, were also confirmed. The case of Good Career broadly recruiting data center development project managers and electrical design personnel—from Assistant Manager to Director level—for mid-sized manufacturing companies demonstrates that the digital transformation of manufacturing and facility investments are proceeding simultaneously.

The demand for experienced workers in the cosmetics industry also reveals structural characteristics. Job postings appeared for sales personnel at a cosmetics raw material manufacturer, recruiting separately for Assistant Manager and Deputy Manager levels, as well as separate hires for a CMO and E-commerce Leader for a clean and vegan beauty brand. This reflects a dispersed demand for mid-level experienced talent across the entire cosmetics value chain, from raw materials to branding and distribution.

Retail, Service, and Education: A Hiring Landscape Spanning Provinces and the Capital Area

Hiring in customer-facing service sectors is also prominent. Recruitment for customer center counselors at platform companies like YoGiYo and Bithumb has expanded to regional areas such as Busan, while a dermatology clinic near Yongsan Station sought skin therapists and nursing assistants with requirements for English proficiency and an open gender policy. This suggests that even the medical and aesthetic service industries are adopting the ability to serve foreign clients as a standard for hiring.

In the education sector, recruitment continued for secondary school math instructors, educational administration staff, and early childhood music instructors. The shift in academy hiring from focusing solely on academic instruction to emphasizing the training of administrative professionals aligns with a growing trend toward professional specialization in educational services.

By company size, small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies accounted for the majority of hiring. Notably, a significant number of instances of “blind recruitment” were found, where candidates are recruited anonymously through consulting or search firms. Major group affiliates, KOSDAQ-listed companies, and foreign insurance insurers are hiring for key roles such as Chief Compliance Officer, CISO, and Finance & Accounting Director-level positions without revealing their identities. This is interpreted as a reflection of the reality where, amid intensifying competition to secure core talent, companies are strategically managing the recruitment process itself.

Experienced and Rank-Centric Hiring; Outlook for Second Half Demand

A distinct characteristic across the entire data set is the high number of postings specifying rank, from Assistant Manager to Director and Executive level. This clearly reflects the corporate preference for experienced candidates who can be immediately effective, over new hires. The fact that hiring for team leader level and above is concentrated in high-responsibility positions such as compliance monitoring, overseas sales, and research institute heads follows the same logic.

Future prospects are expected to vary by industry. The expansion of directly operated luxury stores and domestic e-commerce growth is anticipated to sustain demand for retail and customer service personnel for the time being. Given that the aerospace and defense sectors have announced the hiring of new personnel for 2026, demand centered on R&D roles is likely to continue. However, the scale of hiring for some service roles, such as platform customer centers, may be adjusted depending on the progress of automation in consultation channels. Ultimately, the comprehensive implication of this data is that inter-company competition for mid-level managers possessing both language skills and domain expertise will become even more intense.
