Rep. Lee Jin-seok storms out of session as expulsion resolution is tabled
People Power Party lawmaker Lee Jin-seok walked out of the plenary session on the 26th after a resolution calling for the deprivation of her parliamentary seat was introduced, regarding her hosting of a forum where she was accused of denigrating and distorting the May 18 Democratization Movement. Lee, who had remained in the chamber, rose from her seat and headed for the exit, without offering any separate clarification or stating her position to fellow lawmakers or reporters. Her abrupt exit during the proceedings caused a brief commotion in the chamber.
The People Power Party adopted a strategy on this day wherein the majority of its lawmakers would boycott the vote and exit the chamber during the plenary session.
The resolution calling for the expulsion of Rep. Lee Jin-seok was passed during the plenary session that day. However, as the resolution is political and declarative in nature, its passage does not result in Lee immediately losing her seat.
