Korail Employee in 50s Killed While Moving Train Cars
A Korail employee in his 50s died on the morning of the 29th after being run over by a train while moving train cars (shunting) at Uiwang Station in Uiwang City, Gyeonggi Province.
The shunting operation Mr. A was tasked with involves connecting or disconnecting locomotives and freight cars. This process takes place on the tracks when assembling or disassembling train consists, requiring workers to operate in close proximity to the rails while attaching and detaching cars.
Immediately following the accident, an Uiwang Station official reported to fire authorities that an employee appeared to have been crushed by the train. Emergency crews were dispatched to the station upon receiving the call. Firefighters arriving at the scene confirmed that Mr. A was already dead.
Korail and the Seoul Railway Special Judicial Police Force are investigating the exact cause of the accident, including the circumstances of the work at the time.
