US and China Join Forces to Reject Calls for Slowing AI Development: "We Cannot Stop"

The United States and China have jointly pushed back head-on against Dario Amodei's call for slowing the pace of AI development. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has argued that the development of artificial intelligence (AI) should be decelerated. According to the IT industry on the 14th, the White House dismissed the slowdown warnings, saying they are "fueled by negative forces," and reaffirmed its commitment to AI development, while China also rebutted through state-run media that the claims are "baseless."

David Sacks, the White House AI and Crypto Czar, appeared on the YouTube 'All-In' podcast the same day and directly rebutted claims that there is up to a 10% chance AI could wipe out humanity within a decade. He criticized the argument as "nothing more than a gut feeling, not objective research or internal data," adding that it "looks like organized fear marketing by leading companies." He then warned, "Don't pretend that the motivation to slow things down is purely altruistic," and "If your product actually enables serious cyberattacks, you will face massive product liability."

China also pushed back. State-run media Global Times responded to Amodei's essay, which mentioned China more than a dozen times while arguing for the need to regulate Chinese AI, saying it "portrays China's legitimate AI development as a threat and further fuels US-China AI competition," calling it "inappropriate, baseless, and hostile." Xiao Qian, deputy dean of Tsinghua University's Institute for AI International Governance, noted that Anthropic faces competition from rapidly growing Chinese open-source AI models.
