Jang Dong-hyuk calls Kim Seung-won's confirmation hearing 'cheap comedy,' urges withdrawal of cabinet reshuffle
People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk on the 17th branded the confirmation hearing (a National Assembly review of a minister nominee's qualifications before appointment) of Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won as 'cheap comedy' and urged President Lee Jae-myung to immediately withdraw his botched cabinet reshuffle (the replacement and appointment of ministers) and completely renew the government and the presidential office. Speaking at the party's Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly, Jang said, "This reshuffle is worse than not having one at all," pointing out that the nominee had failed to explain any of the various suspicions against him, including stock manipulation.
On the server outage during rolling admissions application submissions, Jang said the incident "caused enormous harm to students and their parents." He argued that officials who failed to prevent a foreseeable accident should be held accountable, demanding the immediate resignation of the education minister, a comprehensive investigation into the cause, and relief for all affected students. The People Power Party decided to form a 'College Admissions Fairness Task Force' directly under the party chairman to investigate the cases with experts from various fields and to draw up relief measures for affected students and plans for improvement.
Regarding the single-stock leveraged ETF scandal, Jang claimed that at a meeting in January in which former presidential chief policy secretary Kim Yong-beom gathered officials from the finance ministry, the Financial Services Commission, the Financial Supervisory Service, and brokerages, "not a single person proposed single-stock leveraged ETFs." He said, "There is a 99.9% chance that Secretary Kim himself proposed and pushed it through," adding, "There is no way President Lee didn't know about it." He also called for accountability to be established all the way from the president to the presidential office, the Office for Government Policy Coordination, the Financial Services Commission, and the Financial Supervisory Service, announcing that the People Power Party would push for a special prosecutor to investigate the 'Lee Jae-myung administration ETF gate.'
