Negative Assessment of President's Job Performance Rises 5%p from 51% to 56%, Positive Stands at 37%
Negative assessments of the president's job performance stood at 56%.
In a Gallup Korea survey of 1,002 men and women aged 18 or older nationwide, conducted via telephone interviews (CATI) from September 15 to 17, 2026, 37% of respondents said the president is "doing well" in performing his duties, while 56% said he is "doing poorly." 7% declined to offer an opinion.
Party Support
In party support, the Democratic Party of Korea recorded 40% support and the People Power Party 27%. 25% of respondents said they did not support any party. The gap between the two parties stood at 13 percentage points, exceeding the margin of error (±3.1 percentage points).
Economic Outlook for the Year Ahead
Asked about the economic outlook for the coming year, 42% said the economy would "get worse," the most common response. 27% said it would "get better" and 26% said it would "remain about the same."
Trend Compared to Previous Surveys
Positive assessments of the president's job performance have declined compared to last month's surveys. After registering 40% in the September 3 survey and 38% in the September 10 survey, the positive rating fell for a third consecutive time to 37% in this survey. Over the same period, negative ratings rose sharply by 5 percentage points, from 51% to 56% in this survey. Non-responses fell from 9% on September 3 and 11% on September 10 to 7% in this survey.
In party support, the Democratic Party of Korea posted 38% in both the September 3 and September 10 surveys before rising 2 percentage points to 40% in this survey. The People Power Party fell from 30% on September 3 and 29% on September 10 to 27% in this survey. The share of independents shifted slightly from 25% on September 3 and 26% on September 10 to 25% in this survey.
