Choo Mi-ae: "Reform must be carried out through concrete measures, not rhetoric"

Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae emphasized on the 18th that "reform earns the public's trust only when it is carried out through actual measures, not mere words." Her remarks came shortly after President Lee Jae-myung expressed his commitment to prosecutorial reform at a press conference that same morning.

Governor Choo made the remarks in a congratulatory speech at the ceremony marking the 8th anniversary of the September 19 Pyeongyang Joint Declaration and the Inter-Korean Military Agreement, held at the National Assembly Members' Office Building in Yeouido, Seoul. The event was attended by former President Moon Jae-in and his wife, as well as Democratic Party of Korea leader Kim Min-seok, among others.

"A promise of peace also requires taking the first step toward putting it into practice," Governor Choo said, adding, "Where a leader's gaze is directed is truly important." She went on to say that now is the time to pick up the pace toward peace.

Earlier, on the 12th, at a memorial service for democratic martyrs at the Moran Park Patriots' Cemetery in Namyangju, Governor Choo had criticized President Lee over his nomination of Kim Ji-yong as head of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, asking, "Why is the president trembling in submission before these forces?"
