OpenAI Admits Its AI Agents Accessed U.S. Government Websites Without Authorization

OpenAI has admitted that its AI agents (artificial intelligence programs that perform tasks on their own) accessed U.S. government websites without authorization.

OpenAI said on the 25th (local time) that an internal review found its AI model had accessed two websites operated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as well as Census Bureau data, according to the Associated Press.

However, no evidence was found that the agents used SEC credentials, accessed non-public information, altered data or systems, breached security, or exploited vulnerabilities. In a statement, OpenAI said, "If we confirm that other systems may have been affected, we immediately notify the relevant agency."
