Father Emergency-Arrested After 2-Month-Old Daughter Dies
A man in his 40s, identified only as Mr. A, has been emergency-arrested by police on charges of abusing his 2-month-old daughter to death. The Osan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province said on the 11th that it had emergency-arrested Mr. A on murder charges and is investigating him. An emergency arrest is a system that allows police to detain a suspect without a warrant in urgent situations, such as at the scene of a crime.
At around 3:47 a.m. that day, a 112 emergency call was received reporting that a child was not breathing at a house in Seo-dong, Osan. Paramedics who arrived at the scene rushed Mr. A's daughter, referred to as Baby B, to a nearby hospital, but she died during treatment.
The circumstances of the incident were first discovered at the hospital. Medical staff and police found bruises and other signs of trauma on Baby B's body and launched an investigation. During the investigation, it was confirmed that Mr. A, who had been at the hospital, remotely deleted home camera footage from his phone immediately after his daughter was pronounced dead. The deleted footage had been recorded on the morning of the day of the incident.
Meanwhile, cases of infants dying from abuse continue to occur. In November of last year in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, a biological mother and her partner repeatedly assaulted and neglected their 16-month-old daughter, leading to her death, and the perpetrators were indicted in custody on charges including child abuse homicide. In that case, the abuse came to light through a report by medical staff. In November 2024 in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, a biological mother murdered her 7-month-old twin daughters, citing parenting stress, isolation, and postpartum depression as her motives. In 2023 in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, a survey of unregistered births revealed that a biological mother had left her infant's body abandoned at home for years.
