Reform Party piles on: 'President Lee Jae-myung, how many golf clubs do you own?'
The Reform Party joined opposition attacks on President Lee Jae-myung on the 12th over his presence at a golf course during the ceiling collapse accident at a commercial building in Daegu on the 10th, saying, "In moments when public safety is at stake, golf clubs must be set down." Lee Ki-in, chairman of the party's emergency response committee, criticized at the committee meeting on Monday morning: "He denied playing golf with the late Kim Moon-ki and slammed Yoon Suk-yeol's golfing as 'imperial golf,' yet his own golf suddenly carries the justification of 'national interest.' Just how many golf clubs does he own?"
Chairman Lee called for consistency in standards. "If golf for diplomacy is necessary, then it should be accepted under the same standard for President Yoon and President Lee Jae-myung alike," he said, while stressing that "at the same time, no president should be exempt from the responsibility of disaster response on the grounds of diplomacy."
He also demanded specific disclosure of the president's explanation. "He says he received reports in the field. If so, he should reveal when and what reports he received, what measures he took, and what reviews followed," Lee said, adding, "If the Lee Jae-myung of the past were watching the Lee Jae-myung of today, he would have been the first to hold him accountable."
Meanwhile, after the meeting, Chairman Lee told reporters that regarding whether floor leader Chun Ha-ram will run in the southern Gyeonggi region in the 2028 general election, "He himself agrees that a decision must be made within October." "I am in regular communication with Floor Leader Chun, and I understand he is willing to appear before the emergency committee to voice his views on the southern Gyeonggi stronghold strategy," he said.
