Cho Kyung-tae Slams Han Dong-hoon: 'A Line That Must Not Be Crossed'

Rep. Cho Kyung-tae of the People Power Party criticized independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon's call to re-summon the late former President Roh Moo-hyun over bribery allegations, calling it "a line that must not be crossed," during MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' on the 12th. Han has recently argued, in connection with his criticism of the Democratic Party's push to abolish prosecutors' offices, that the late former president himself or his family received luxury watches worth 300 million won and billions of won from park yeon-cha, and that the prosecution's investigation was no fabrication.

In response, Cho said, "The public already knows all about that. But that is not a factual claim — the details of that investigation, including various family-related matters, were widely reported by the media at the time." He added, "Touching the personal, human dimension of it all — I don't think that is what a politician should do."

Cho also pointed to Rep. Kim Tae-kyu of the same party, who mentioned the 'Owl Rock' during a National Assembly audit, saying, "Such remarks have gone far beyond acceptable bounds." He criticized, "Mocking death, or expressing it so crudely, is neither the duty of a politician nor of a human being."

Championing 'harmony and bipartisan cooperation,' Cho said that following his visit to Roh's gravesite in Bongha, he also plans to visit the tomb of the late former President Park Chung-hee. On speculation about his return to the Democratic Party after the Bongha visit, he drew a clear line, questioning the legitimacy of the party, which took power through the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, saying, "The Democratic Party is not that attractive a party right now."

With the Democratic Party's Saha-gu district chapter in Busan having taken a negative stance on his possible return, saying "Do not use President Roh Moo-hyun," Cho's remarks are expected to bring political infighting back to the surface.
