Man Wielding Knives in Both Hands Goes on Rampage at Incheon Shopping Mall, Leaving Multiple Injured
A 59-year-old man wielding knives in both hands went on a rampage at a large shopping mall in Guwol-dong, Incheon, leaving a woman in her 20s in cardiac arrest. After entering the mall, the man swung his knives as he rode the escalator up from the second basement level. Seven people suffered stab wounds, bruises, and other injuries in the process, with the damage greatest on the second floor food court, where crowds had gathered.
At the time, restaurant staff were chatting when a man suddenly approached from behind and swung a knife, stabbing one worker multiple times. As the worker collapsed, the man swung at another employee, and a male customer who witnessed the scene fought back by throwing chairs and trays. Witness Kang Byung-hoon said, "I went out thinking there was a fight, and there was a woman bleeding," adding, "There was a man standing in the back holding a knife."
Meanwhile, citizens subdued the man themselves and handed him over to police. Roughly 30 minutes elapsed between the man entering the mall and his arrest. Police are investigating the man's motive and the circumstances of the incident.
