President Lee Jae-myung declares: 'No escape from legal judgment even if you flee abroad'

President Lee Jae-myung said on the 14th that "hiding abroad cannot shield anyone from the judgment of the law," as the ringleader and accomplices of an illegal gambling website, who had fled overseas, were arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and extradited to South Korea.

The arrests were carried out through cooperation between the government-wide task force on transnational crime and UAE authorities.

The three individuals extradited — the ringleader, his second-in-command, and the site developer — had fled abroad in 2016 to evade investigation and lived on the run for about a decade, laundering their identities with passports from third countries before their capture.
