Jang Dong-hyuk Shouts 'Election Fraud' at Olympic Park Ballot Verification Site
Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the People Power Party, visited the site of the public ballot verification at Seoul's Olympic Park conducted by special prosecutor Lee Tae-han's election commission investigation team on the 28th and urged rally attendees to shout slogans of "election fraud" and "new election" even louder.
Special prosecutor Lee Tae-han's team began a voluntary verification (ballot counting) at 9 a.m. on the 28th of approximately 2.47 million ballots from the Songpa district in the June 3 local elections, along with on-site closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and other materials stored at the Olympic Park handball stadium in Songpa-gu, Seoul. The verification included checking the quantity, markings, and printing condition of the ballots. More than 110 special prosecution staff and some 500 National Election Commission personnel were deployed for the process. An observation group of nearly 100 lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties—including Democratic Party lawmakers Kim Young-jin, chair of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee, Park Ju-min, Kim Tae-gyu, and Lee Jin-sook—observed the verification.
The verification was originally scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., but the process started at around 11:50 a.m. due to delays in entry procedures, with the actual counting beginning at 2 p.m. During the verification, the special prosecution team initially barred individual filming, but later adjusted the public procedure by permitting two broadcast cameras and providing cameras to one observer from each of the ruling and opposition parties.
