In a report to the National Assembly's Intelligence Committee audit on the 29th, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) said Kim Ju-ae, daughter of North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un, is building a narrative as a military leader, including staged involvement in nuclear missile operations. The NIS also officially confirmed for the first time that 'Ju-ae' is her real name. Asked whether 'Kim Ju-ae' is her real name, the NIS replied, 'Kim Ju-ae is indeed her real name.' North Korean state media have so far referred to her only as the 'beloved child' or 'respected child' and have never publicly used the name 'Ju-ae,' making this the first time an intelligence agency has confirmed her real name.

The NIS also addressed Kim Ju-ae's status as a presumptive successor. A chronological analysis of her public activities since her first appearance in 2022 shows she is solidifying the stage of being designated successor and progressively engraving her status as heir apparent. The NIS explained, 'This is judged to be a strategy to gradually increase public acceptance among residents.' Military-related activities accounted for 60 percent of her public engagements, and commemorative photo sessions took place only at military events, according to the NIS analysis.

Organizational restructuring has also taken place. According to the NIS report to the Intelligence Committee, North Korea, facing growing state-level strategic intelligence demands, reorganized its intelligence apparatus around two pillars: the National Intelligence Bureau and the Reconnaissance General Bureau. The National Intelligence Bureau handles foreign intelligence collection and analysis, while the Reconnaissance General Bureau is responsible for regional strategic intelligence.

On Chairman Kim's health, the NIS said, 'His basic health indicators during recent public activities are being managed within normal ranges, and he is known to have hyperlipidemia.' The agency also reported that the regime is being managed through a patronage system centered on key confidants including Kim Yo-jong, Workers' Party organization secretary; Choe Son-hui, foreign minister; Jo Yong-won, Workers' Party secretary; and Pak Jong-chon, vice chairman of the party's Central Military Commission.
