Park Geun-hye urges People Power Party to win general election and retake power
A moment has been revealed in which former President Park Geun-hye urged the People Power Party to win the general election and retake power. Appearing on MBN's 'Current Affairs Special: Jung Woon-gap's In-Depth Analysis' on the 1st, People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk said that during a luncheon on the 25th of last month, the former president advised, "Fill the party with good talent and win the next general election, and only by using that victory to take back power can South Korea's market economy and liberal democratic system be protected." According to Jang, the luncheon took place when the former president visited Seoul to pay respects at her father, former President Park Chung-hee's, tomb on the 47th anniversary of his death.
Jang said, "As party leader, it is important to attend to many pending issues one by one, but what must not be overlooked is reforming the electoral system so that suspicions like those raised in the recent ballot shortage incident do not arise again. She told us not to let go of the issue of reforming the National Election Commission and to see it through to concrete results."
Chung Hee-yong, the party's secretary general, who also attended the luncheon, told Yonhap News, "The former president said we should support the party well under Leader Jang's leadership and check the ruling party for the good of the country. She also expressed concern that historical distortions by the left are being taught through films and other media, and shared worries about the current security situation, including North Korea's landmine provocations."
