Kim Yong-tae: "Han Dong-hoon's return to the party is difficult, but it should be done"
Rep. Kim Yong-tae said regarding the issue of independent Rep. Han Dong-hoon rejoining the People Power Party, "Personally, I think it is necessary, but realistically it will not be easy." Kim made the remarks on MBC radio's "News High Kick" on the 6th. He noted that the circumstances that led Rep. Han to his current political situation arose during the leadership of PPP Chairman Jang Dong-hyuk, and said that if a return to the party had been assumed from the start, the disciplinary action would not have been taken in that manner.
Asked about the possibility of a reconciliation between Chairman Jang and Rep. Han, Kim gave a cautious answer. He drew the line, saying he did not personally know the emotional dynamics between the two men. He did, however, mention that the two had run together as a ticket during Rep. Han's party convention bid for party leader, and that Chairman Jang had run for the Supreme Council at that time.
He went on to stress that politics is about pursuing the public interest, not personal feelings or private gain. He explained that if one sets aside personal feelings and considers what role must be played to save and normalize South Korea, the answer becomes clear.
When asked again about the possibility of Han's return to the party, Kim said he believes "personally, he should return," adding that it remains to be seen who the leader capable of solving that complicated equation will be.
