[Daily Market Insights] KOSPI Pressed Down Amid Nasdaq Strength… Undervalued Semiconductor Stocks Preserve Returns

On September 30, the final trading day of the month, markets wore different expressions. While the Nasdaq rose 0.89% to extend AI strength, the KOSPI slipped 0.48% and the Dow also closed in negative territory. Yet amid it all, the AI Value Investing Portfolio maintained a dazzling year-to-date return of +63.16%, with total assets reaching $16,316. With more than $6,000 in gains on an initial $10,000 in capital, the results underscore that the portfolio's core thesis—undervalued semiconductor and AI stocks—remains valid.

Asset Trajectory: Underlying Strength Amid Consolidation

Over the past five trading days, assets climbed from $16,340 on the 24th to $16,519 on the 28th before easing slightly to close the month at $16,316. Still, the portfolio gained 0.45% versus the 29th, keeping its direction intact. Even on days when the KOSPI wobbled, the assets held steady because the U.S. market—particularly the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, up 0.23%—rose, and sector exposure via triple-leveraged funds offset the decline. The VIX remaining in the low 16s also supported this favorable operating environment.

Holdings Diagnosis: Stocks "Cheap Relative to Growth"

SOXL14.65 shares$71.22$147.0031.5
TQQQ1.19 shares$76.34$77.4631.5

The face of the portfolio is undoubtedly NVIDIA. Uncharacteristically for a growth stock, it trades at a P/E in the high 20s with a PEG of 0.47 when adjusted for growth rates—still cheap relative to growth, assuming AI chip demand doesn't falter anytime soon. Micron sits in the most extremely undervalued zone, with a 24x P/E and a PEG of just 0.16, backed by an HBM-driven memory supercycle delivering earnings of $44 per share. Despite a comparatively rich 45x P/E, Broadcom's PEG of 0.35 suggests its growth is not yet fully reflected in the stock price. Intel, meanwhile, is running at a loss and is closer to a recovery bet than a balancing position—making careful position management at current profit levels as important as ever.

Trade Review: Trimming Leverage for Individual Undervalued Stocks

2026-08-07SellSOXL0.95 shares$132.33

A consistent logic runs through the recent trading activity. During the semiconductor sector's upswing, the portfolio realized gains by selling off portions of the SOXL leveraged index fund and redirected the proceeds into undervalued individual names like Micron and Broadcom. It is a textbook example of "rotation within rotation"—capturing sector momentum not through the index but through individual stock valuations. The additional Micron purchase on September 18 came when extreme undervaluation (a PEG around 0.14) coincided with confirmation of a trend reversal, and the stock has since broken above the $1,000 mark.

Outlook: The Homework Posed by Oil and Rates

The watch points are clear. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield has climbed to 5.29%, imposing financing pressure on high-valuation growth stocks, and while Brent crude fell more than 4% in a single day, WTI holding at $90 means inflation pressure persists. That said, the won/dollar exchange rate stabilizing at 1,355 and the VIX in the low 16s suggest a risk-on environment remains in place. This is a phase where selecting individual undervalued stocks—rather than betting on big index moves—will determine returns. This strategy's next move will rest on that same principle.
