Democratic Party Leader Chung Cheong-rae Faces Police Complaint Over Alleged 'Selective Reporting' Intervention
The civic group Citizens' Action to Establish Judicial Justice (SAJEHAENG) filed a complaint against Democratic Party leader Chung Cheong-rae with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the 18th, related to suspicions surrounding the 'prosecution withdrawal deal' involving broadcaster Kim Eo-jun. SAJEHAENG claims Chung intentionally excluded Kim from the party's official complaint, thereby obstructing party affairs.
At a press conference held on the same day, SAJEHAENG stated that the Democratic Party's complaint against only Jang In-su, who first raised the 'prosecution withdrawal deal' theory, while excluding Kim, was mere 'scapegoating.' They added that it is difficult to comprehend why Kim, who has greater influence and responsibility, was omitted from the complaint.
Earlier, on March 12th, the Democratic Party's National Communication Committee had filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency against Jang In-su for defamation under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc., in relation to the 'prosecution withdrawal deal' theory. Jang had appeared on the YouTube broadcast 'Kim Eo-jun's Humility is Difficult News Factory' on March 10th, asserting the so-called 'prosecution withdrawal deal' theory and claiming that a Presidential associate had conveyed messages to prosecutors demanding the withdrawal of indictments.
