AMD CEO Lisa Su visited South Korea and held discussions with Samsung Electronics executives on areas of cooperation, including the supply of HBM4 for next-generation AI accelerators. Samsung Electronics has been named the preferred supplier for HBM4, slated for integration into AMD's upcoming AI accelerators. The visit solidified comprehensive technological collaboration encompassing high-specification memory supply and foundry services for system semiconductors. CEO Su toured Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek campus and signed a business agreement with executives, including Vice Chairman Jeon Young-hyun. Beyond next-generation HBM supply, the companies also explored collaboration opportunities in high-performance DDR5 memory and foundry services.

CEO Su also met with Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon at the company's 1784 building, signing a memorandum of understanding concerning AI ecosystem and infrastructure collaboration. The agreement aims to bolster domestic AI infrastructure development and enhance service competitiveness.

Rival Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang has also recently strengthened ties with Korean companies, emphasizing the securing of 'K-semiconductors' by revealing that Samsung Electronics is manufacturing chips for Nvidia's next-generation AI accelerators. These moves by Big Tech firms underscore the rising importance of domestic semiconductor companies with cutting-edge capabilities amid the AI boom, leading to positive market reactions including gains in the KOSPI index and recovery in the stock prices of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
