The Ministry of Economy and Finance has sent a draft proposal to integrate three agencies—Incheon International Airport Corporation, Korea Airports Corporation, and the Gadeokdo New Airport Construction Authority—to relevant ministries and target organizations, initiating full-scale discussions. This integration proposal was prepared to enhance airport management efficiency and prevent duplicate investments. Based on the draft developed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the government held its first meeting regarding the consolidation of public institutions after gathering opinions from various ministries. A joint public-private task force is planned to be formed in the future to review detailed integration plans.

President Lee Jae-myung pointed out the public's inconvenience due to the lack of domestic flights at Incheon Airport during the National Tourism Strategy Meeting on the 25th of last month. The efficient operation of Gadeokdo New Airport, the revitalization of regional airports, and the establishment of a single window to oversee airport policy were presented as grounds for integration.

The Korea Airports Corporation Labor Union expressed its support for the integration push, citing improved operational efficiency and the revitalization of regional airports. Conversely, the Incheon International Airport Corporation Labor Union launched the 'Joint Struggle Committee to Block Hasty Incheon Airport Integration' and announced a campaign against the consolidation.

As of 2024, Incheon International Airport Corporation recorded a net profit of 488.2 billion won, while Korea Airports Corporation recorded a net loss of 134.5 billion won. The disparity in financial status and differing organizational cultures between the agencies emerged as key factors in the integration process.

The U.S. Federal Reserve held its benchmark interest rate at 3.50-3.75% as of 3:00 AM on March 19, 2026. The Fed announced its policy to decide on the direction of interest rates after reviewing key economic indicators such as the Consumer Price Index and employment reports.
