PPP's Jang Dong-hyeok Apologizes for Nomination Confusion in Daegu
People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok apologized as party leader on the 22nd at the Daegu City Chapter for the internal party confusion during the nomination process for the Daegu mayoral candidate in the upcoming local elections. On this day, Jang met with Daegu region lawmakers to hear their opinions on nominations, with 12 Daegu area representatives attending, including Secretary-General Jeong Hee-yong, Chief of Staff Park Jun-tae, Joo Ho-young, Yoon Jae-ok, Choo Kyung-ho, Yoo Young-ha, and Choi Eun-seok.
Jang stated that the Daegu mayoral nomination was intended to be a 'citizen nomination' where Daegu citizens directly choose a competitive candidate, and expressed his apologies as party leader. He pledged to relay the local sentiment confirmed in the meeting to the nomination committee chairman to reflect it in the nomination process. Regarding specific nomination methods such as cutting veteran candidates, he added that efforts would be made to ensure a fair primary election, considering factors like preventing the division of supporters' votes.
Lawmaker Kwon Young-jin, who attended the meeting, told reporters that the attending lawmakers unanimously conveyed their view that 'artificial cut-offs are unacceptable,' and Jang appeared to understand this opinion.
