DP leadership convenes at Bongha Village, discusses support for Northeast Asian logistics hub
The Democratic Party leadership visited Bongha Village in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province on the 23rd, paid respects at the grave of former President Roh Moo-hyun, and held an on-site supreme council meeting.
Support for building a Northeast Asian logistics platform was discussed at the meeting.
Kim Kyoung-soo, the Democratic Party's candidate for Governor of South Gyeongsang Province, stated at the supreme council meeting that former President Roh Moo-hyun's balanced development policy is being pursued as local-led growth. Candidate Kim explained that while the mega-city strategy by region began in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam area, the region's development speed has currently stagnated. Kim pointed out that Busan Port ranks second worldwide in cargo transshipment and seventh worldwide in total cargo volume, but its production added value is outside the top 10. Accordingly, he requested support for fostering high-value-added logistics processing industries and preparing for the Arctic shipping route era.
Han Byung-do, the Democratic Party's floor leader, announced that as the Special Act on International Logistics Promotion Regions passed the National Assembly plenary session on the 12th, Gimhae is poised to become a global logistics hub integrating ports, airports, and railways.
The party leadership decided to support the completion of a smart logistics platform centered around Gimhae.
After their schedule at Bongha Village, the Democratic Party leadership visited Nam-bu Market in Yangsan to listen to public sentiment. The leadership reviewed local issues such as market modernization projects, and was accompanied by Yangsan mayoral hopeful Kim Il-kwon and others.
