Seong Gwang-jin Confirmed as Unified Daejeon Education Superintendent Candidate
The Daejeon Citizen Superintendent Candidate Unification Civic Council for Future Education announced the results of online voting and opinion polls for the democratic progressive education superintendent unification candidate on the 30th at the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education. Preliminary candidate Seong Gwang-jin secured the unified candidacy with 76.8% of the vote, while rival candidate Kang Jae-gu received 23.2%. Consequently, Seong Gwang-jin was finalized as the unified candidate representing the progressive camp, set to lead Daejeon's education policies in the June local elections.
Immediately after the results were announced, Seong stated, “I stand here carrying a responsibility greater than overwhelming emotion,” and added, “As I have been chosen as the unified candidate by the choice of Daejeon citizens, I will surely prove it through results.”
He diagnosed the current state of Daejeon's education as appearing stable on the surface but accumulating internal crises. He pointed to low integrity, stagnant innovation, and increased burdens on educators as key issues.
