U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to bomb Iran's energy infrastructure if ceasefire negotiations with the country break down. Trump announced on his social media platform Truth Social on the 30th (local time), "The United States is discussing with a new and more reasonable regime to end our military operations in Iran." He stated that if an agreement with Iran is not reached immediately or if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened for commercial use, he would blow up power plants, oil wells, and Harq Island, completely devastate them, and end his "journey" in Iran. Trump had previously warned on April 6th that he would attack energy infrastructure if Iran did not accept the ceasefire agreement by that date, and he also left open the possibility of a unilateral ceasefire declaration, saying he would finish his "journey" in Iran after devastating its energy infrastructure.

President Trump emphasized that the threat to bomb energy infrastructure was retaliation for the sacrifices of U.S. soldiers and others during the former Iranian regime's "reign of terror" that lasted for the past 47 years. He also added that he wants to take Iran's oil and is considering occupying Harq Island, a base for crude oil exports. He also claimed to have achieved "regime change" and that one regime had been annihilated and destroyed.

CNN, an American broadcast network, pointed out that under U.S. law, attacks on civilian infrastructure, including energy facilities, are only permitted if the military advantage outweighs civilian harm, a condition that is very difficult to meet. The head of Amnesty International's Middle East and North Africa region warned that attacks on energy infrastructure would result in horrific civilian casualties and carry a significant risk of violating international humanitarian law and constituting war crimes.
