Deputy Prime Minister Leads Telecom Giants in Reform Declaration
Deputy Prime Minister Baek Kyung-hoon met with the CEOs of the three major telecom companies to declare 'reform' aimed at restoring public trust and stabilizing livelihoods, and they agreed to expand investment in next-generation networks in preparation for the AI era.
Deputy Prime Minister Baek Kyung-hoon emphasized the need for reforms that the public can tangibly feel, referencing security incidents that occurred last year. He urged the companies to fully commit to a paradigm shift in information security and preventing recurrence.
The three telecom companies will expedite the expansion of voice and text services for seniors and the launch of a 5G plan priced around 21,000 won. They also committed to improving public transportation services, including upgrading Wi-Fi 5G on subways and enhancing high-speed rail quality.
The government and the three telecom companies will expand investment in next-generation intelligent networks supporting the AI era at the level of national infrastructure. They will lay the foundation for an AI highway by strengthening R&D support for securing cutting-edge AI network technology and boosting investment in AI Data Centers (AIDC) and next-generation communication networks.
The government also decided to initiate prioritized processing of emergency communication services for the National Fire Agency based on commercial networks to prevent communication delays during urgent rescue situations, and to strengthen on-site response to ensure no disruption to communication services due to external variables.
