Russia Transfers US-Linked CANPACK's Operations to State Control
The Russian government has transferred the operational rights of US-linked aluminum beverage can manufacturer CANPACK to state administration, citing a decree dated December 31, 2025, signed by President Vladimir Putin.
CANPACK, a global aluminum beverage can manufacturer owned by a Pennsylvania-based holding company, had operated in Russia for approximately 30 years, holding an estimated 35% to 40% of the market share. The value of CANPACK's Russian operations was estimated at around $700 million. CANPACK CEO Peter George stated that the company lost all operational authority after state-appointed administrators arrived in mid-January.
Amid Moscow's apparent interest in restoring economic ties with the United States, the development highlights the complex geopolitical context surrounding Western firms' operations in Russia.
